GOOGLE SCHOLAR IN SPANISH

[May 5, 2006] The Spanish version (known as 'Google Académico') of the search engine 'Google Scholar' was launched a few days ago. It helps to search for academic texts and technical documents and, therefore, makes it easier to find research texts and essays in Spanish.

According to this press release, this service includes now academic studies written in Spanish taken from different sources, among which we'll highlight University thesis and publications, open source documents and articles published on the Internet. Isabel Aguilera, Chief Executive for Google Spain and Google Portugal, affirms that researchers will be able to use this new version in Spanish access more confortably to essays and discoveries carried out in other countries.

Apart from that, Google invites editors from publishing companies and librarians to take part in this application so that users can have access to the information that they manage. However, it hasn't been clarified if Google has come to an agreement with organisms that have this kind of documents in Spanish, as the company did for the version of`'Google Scholar' for other countries like Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Portugal, Sweden or Switzerland.
